Ranchi: A drug peddler from
Uttar Pradesh, who supplied contraband to Ranchi and neighbouring districts, was arrested from a house near Ratu Maharaj Talab, police said.
The accused was identified as Gangasagar Rai, a native of Gazipur district in Uttar Pradesh, police added.
SP (Rural) Sumit Agrawal said, "Acting on a tip-off that a tenant living in the house of Hazi Ansari at Ratu was involved in drugs trade, DIG-cum-Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha formed a team led by deputy superindent of police (DSP) Arvind Kumar. Police conducted the search operation and found 22 kg of cannabis stored in bags in a room of the house. The cannabis, valued at Rs 12 lakh,was brought from Jharsugoda in Odisha for supply to retail sellers in the city."
A case was registered under relevant sections of NDPS act. Raids were under way to arrest other persons involved in the illegal trade, police added.
