Ranchi: Power supply was disrupted in several areas of the city on Wednesday as the Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) carried out essential work to strengthen the power infrastructure under the revamped distribution sector scheme.
The scheme is designed to enhance the efficiency and dependability of electricity supply. The affected areas included Harmu, Deepatoli, Pundag, Ashok Nagar, and Argora. According to officials, the power outages, which lasted from 11.30 am to 3.00 pm, were necessary to facilitate the upgrade work.
Many residents expressed inconvenience due to the outage. Rahul Kumar, owner of Rahul Glass, a shop in Harmu, said, "The power cut affected my business as I rely on electricity for billing. However, if this work improves supply in the long run, we can manage for a few hours."
Priya Sharma, a resident of Ashok Nagar, said, "It was difficult without electricity. But at least we were informed in advance, so we made the necessary arrangements. We had backup power sources, charged devices, and planned essential tasks accordingly, minimising the inconvenience caused by the power outage."
Komal Kumari, a resident of Pundag, said, "The four-hour power outage caused a lot of inconvenience. Household chores were delayed, and work-from-home tasks were disrupted. However, since we were informed in advance, we managed to make necessary arrangements."
General manager of JBVNL's Ranchi supply area board, Manmohan Kumar, said, "These upgrades are crucial for ensuring an uninterrupted and improved electricity supply in the coming days. We appreciate the public's patience. The planned disruption aimed to strengthen the power infrastructure for better reliability in the future."
