Drones keep an eye on procession routes in city
Ranchi: The Ranchi district police initiated drone surveillance in the city areas on Friday to identify potential security threats ahead of Sunday's Ram Navami procession. The aerial monitoring is focused on checking rooftops for objects that could be used to disrupt the festivities.
As part of the inspections, police teams also monitored several areas, including the Main Road, Hindpiri, and Daily Market areas. Moreover, SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha instructed the in-charges of all police stations to identify vulnerable locations and ensure adequate security deployment to prevent untoward incidents.
Talking to media persons about the issue, the SSP said, "The surveillance will continue until Ram Navami. All procession routes are being inspected by the respective police station officers. Preventive drone monitoring is being conducted to check for objectionable materials on terraces, as stone-pelting incidents have occurred during past processions. However, no suspicious items have been found, so far."
Sinha also warned of strict action against the police officers if any disruptions occur in their jurisdictions. The police control room has been maintaining constant surveillance of social media posts to preserve social harmony, he added.
Meanwhile, DC Manjunath Bhajantri inspected the security arrangements along the procession routes and directed the deployment of adequate police personnel to ensure smooth proceedings.
