UPSC aspirant missing since March 3 died in road accident: Cops
Rajkot: An investigation into the disappearance of a 24-year-old UPSC aspirant, who was reported missing since March 5, revealed that he died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on the Ahmedabad highway.
The victim, Rajkumar Jat's father, Ratanlal, raised suspicion of foul play and demanded a detailed probe.
According to police, Rajkumar was fatally hit by the vehicle on the Targhadiya overbridge along the Ahmedabad highway on March 4. The identity of the deceased was confirmed only on March 9 by Rajkumar's brother-in-law, Arjun Chaudhary, who later filed an FIR against an unknown driver at the Kuwadva Road police station.
Rajkot assistant commissioner police (ACP) Rajesh Bariya said the Kuwadva Road police were first informed about the accident victim's death through a 108 ambulance service on March 4. A forensic postmortem and DNA testing were conducted, and investigations are ongoing to identify the driver responsible for the fatal accident.
Later, Rajkot (rural) SP Himkar Singh revealed that Rajkumar was last seen leaving his house at 2 am on March 3. By evening, he reached Ramdham Ashram in the Kuwadva Road area, where he stayed until the early hours of March 4. Around 3 am, an injured Rajkumar was found by emergency responders.
Ratanlal claimed he attempted to call his son, but his phone was answered by a temple priest in Gondal. Upon reaching the temple, a heated argument broke out between the father and son. Later, both left on the same bike but had another dispute near the residence of a former MLA. Rajkumar allegedly went to Jadeja's house, leading to an altercation.
While CCTV footage confirmed Rajkumar's presence at the former MLA's house, police maintain that there is no evidence of him being assaulted. The footage also shows continued arguments between the father and son after leaving the premises.
Ratanlal claimed he has lived in Gondal for 30 years without any enmity with anyone.
