One dead, five hurt as bikes collide in Pune

A 22-year-old youth died and five of his friends sustained injuries after their motorcycles collided head-on at Shelarwadi near Talegaon Dabhade about 24km from Pune on Saturday night.

PUNE: A 22-year-old youth died and five of his friends sustained injuries after their motorcycles collided head-on at Shelarwadi near Talegaon Dabhade about 24km from Pune on Saturday night.
The Talegaon Dabhade police have identified the deceased as Sanjay Kedari of Parandwadi in Maval taluka. “Kedari’s five friends are undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital,” Digambar Atigre, assistant inspector of the Talegaon Dabhade police told TOI.

The six friends from Parandwadi had gone to Indori near Talegaon Dabhade to play cricket. “On their way back, one motorcycle went ahead. When the other motorcycle did not catch up, the trio took U turn at Shelarwadi to check,” Atigre said.
After some distance, their motorcycle collided head-on with another motorcycle which was their friend’s. “Due to the high speed six of them sustained severe injuries. The locals took them to a nearby hospital, where Kedari succumbed to his injuries,” Atigre said.
Atigre said the youths are studying. “We have yet to record the statements of the injured victims. Our probe is on,” Atigre said.
