PUNE: The Kondhwa police on Monday night nabbed a gang of eight people, who were preparing to rob commuters passing through Bopdeo Ghat on Kondhwa-Saswad road. The police have seized three two-wheelers and sharp weapons from their possession.
The suspects have been identified as Faiyyaz Shaikh (28), Arif Shaikh (21), Manoj Sontakke (21), Vijay Pangare (28), Balu Raut (24), Pappu Paradhe (20), Sanjay Matang (19) all from Bhimnagar in Kondhwa Khurd, and
Mushtaq Khan (21) of Undri.
The Kondhwa police team, led by sub-inspector V Ahire, laid a trap and arrested the gang.
R B Karbhari, sub-inspector of the Kondhwa police station, who is investigating the case, said the police received a tip-off that the gang had gathered at Bopdeo Ghat and were getting ready to rob the commuters.
"We laid a trap on Monday night and nabbed the suspects," Karbhari said.
He said the police have seized sharp weapons, chilli powder, two scooters and a motorcycle from the gang.
"We are investigating whether the gang had committed any robberies in the area," Karbhari added.
