Work on subway near junction almost over, need CM’s approval for inauguration: Min
Patna: Over 99% percent of work on Bihar's first-of-its-kind subway linking the newly built multi-modal parking hub with Patna Junction, Mahavir Mandir and Buddha Smriti Park is complete, with the road construction department waiting for CM Nitish Kumar's approval to finalise a date for inauguration, said minister Nitin Nabin, who reviewed the project on Friday.
During inspection, Nabin instructed the officials to complete the final touches soon. Once inaugurated, passengers will be able to disembark from vehicles at the multi-modal parking hub and enter the station directly via the subway from the eastern end of Mahavir Temple. Commuters can also park their vehicles and reach nearby destinations on foot via the subway within minutes.
Nabin said that the multi-modal hub will also have city bus services available for commuting to various places in Patna. "There will be a total of four travelators inside the subway, covering 148 metres of the total length of 440 metres, for easy access, especially benefiting the elderly people, women and children. For the convenience of pedestrians, two escalators have also been provided. There is a lift facility as well near the exit of Mahavir Temple and multi-level parking. Since this facility is underground, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning will also be available," the minister said, adding the subway will become a new identity of an organised Patna.
The multi-modal hub is a four-storey complex. The ground floor is used for city bus operations, with a space to park 32 vehicles. The first, second and third floors are dedicated to car parking, accommodating up to 225 vehicles. The hub also has ticket counters for the city bus services, besides waiting rooms, ATM kiosks, a cafeteria, shops and a restaurant for commuters' comfort if their trains are delayed.
