Begusarai: Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha,
Rahul Gandhi, is set to join AICC in charge of the NSUI,
Kanhaiya Kumar, during his ‘palayan roko, naukri do' ‘padyatra' in Begusarai on Monday, fuelling speculations about latter contesting the assembly elections from the place.
"It is not a coincidence that Rahul has decided to join the ‘padyatra' in Begusarai. He could have chosen Bhitiharwa in West Champaran from where the ‘padyatra' started or decided to join Kanhaiya on the conclusion of the journey," said S C Sharma, a retired professor, adding that the
Congress party may field Kanhaiya from one of the seats from here and then let him revitalise the party in the state. Begusarai is the home district of Kanhaiya.
Former Begusarai MLA of Congress, Amita Bhushan, said the primary focus of the party leadership is to highlight the problems of people including vanishing jobs, education and migration. "Rahul Ji's support will bolster the morale of party workers," she said.
Abhishek Kumar, Congress's teachers cell state president, said he had a conversation with Kanhaiya recently. "However, he gave no indication about his plan to fight the assembly election from here. Congress cannot be the B-team of any party now. If the INDIA bloc comes to power in the state after the assembly elections, Kanhaiya must be the deputy chief minister," he said.
Kanhaiya had made his first electoral foray from Begusarai in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, BJP's Giriraj Singh had trounced him with a staggering margin of over 4 lakh votes.
