Jewellery worth Rs1cr, Rs 50L in cash stolen from trader’s house
Patna: Jewellery worth around Rs 1 crore and Rs 50 lakh in cash were stolen from the home of a transport trader, Dilip Kumar Singh, in Sabalpur village under the River police station area in Patna district. The incident came to light on Friday morning when the family returned home after attending a wedding ceremony.
"No one was home at the time of the incident. Singh had gone to a wedding with his family. On Friday morning, when the family members returned, they noticed the theft. Subsequently, the police were informed. Singh lives in Deep Mala Kunj with his wife, children and mother. Two maids also work at their house," Fatuha SDPO-1, Nikhil Kumar, said.
"My niece's wedding was taking place and the entire family went to attend the ceremony at a community hall in the Guru ka Bagh area of Dhaulpura in Patna district. The thieves broke into all the cupboards and escaped with around Rs 50 lakh in cash and gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 1 crore. The stolen jewellery was ancestral and gifted, including pieces belonging to other women in the house," Singh said.
However, according to the SDPO, certain aspects of the case appeared suspicious. "The locks on the cupboards were opened rather than broken. Even the main door lock was intact. Moreover, despite obtaining such a large amount of cash and jewellery, the thieves still ransacked the entire house in search of valuables, which raises doubts," he said.
