‘Expedite construction of double-decker flyover’
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Monday reviewed the ongoing construction of the double-decker flyover on Ashok Rajpath, inspecting both levels by car and issuing directives to expedite the work. He stressed the urgent need to complete the project, which will benefit Patna University students and local residents by easing traffic congestion and reducing noise pollution.
The 2.2-km-long double-decker flyover features an upper deck running from Kargil Chowk to Science College, designated for eastbound traffic from Gandhi Maidan, and a lower 1.7-km deck from B N College to Patna College for westbound traffic towards Gandhi Maidan. Both decks will feature 7.5-metre-wide traffic lanes.
The structure will connect to Krishna Ghat, providing improved access for PMCH visitors and will be linked to a proposed multi-level car park at PMCH to further streamline traffic flow. The flyover consists of 120 spans supported by 106 pillars. While structural work has been completed, finishing works such as the service lane and parking facility construction are underway.
This Rs 422 crore project is one of the CM's flagship developments. Its foundation stone was laid on Jan 15, 2022. Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) is the nodal agency for the project, which is expected to be inaugurated in May.
According to engineers, the two-tier structure is largely ready with painting, electrical, lighting and bitumen surfacing completed. Final tasks such as thermoplastic road marking, service road development, drainage installation and plantation work around the pillars are in progress.
During the inspection, the CM was accompanied by principal secretary Deepak Kumar, secretaries Anupam Kumar and Kumar Ravi, BRPNNL chairman Shirsat Kapil Ashok, Patna Municipal Corporation commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar and other senior officials.
