PATNA: The first phase of the ongoing caste-based survey, which concluded on Saturday, has brought to fore significant details about the families residing in the state.
"The identification of families is almost along the expected lines. We had made calculations of a total of about 2.70 crore families in the state and 2.60 crore have been identified till January 20.
That is very close to our estimation," deputy secretary with general administration department,
Rajnish Kumar, told TOI on Saturday. He said the exact figure would come after all details are compiled.
Similarly, a total of 13,97,484 families were surveyed in Patna till Friday. The authorities had estimated 20 lakh families in this district. That way the details from Patna show a significant decrease in the number of families. Patna DM did not respond to the calls made for the details.
However, several people complained enumerators didn't approach them. "I live in a building with 14 flats and was available in my flat all through the period when the survey continued. But none contacted me," said a resident of Anand Puri locality. Another resident said the enumerator came to her building but returned only after getting details from the landlord, ignoring tenants.
The survey kicked off across the state on January 7.
