Bihar regiment havildar from Saran among three martyred on China border

A havildar of the 16th battalion of the Bihar Regiment was among three personnel killed in a violent clash that took place with Chinese PLA along Ladakh border on Monday night.

PATNA: A havildar of the 16th battalion of the Bihar Regiment was among three personnel killed in a violent clash that took place with Chinese PLA along Ladakh border on Monday night.
The martyred havildar, Sunil Kumar, was a resident of Dhibra village under Parsa police station in Saran district.
The family received the shocking news from the army headquarters around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The deceased’s wife Menka Rai said, “The officials told me that Sunil laid down his life at the alter of the nation’s security.” Sunil is survived by wife and a three-year-old daughter.
Family sources said that Sunil was the elder among two sons of Sukhdev Rai, who also retired from the Indian Army about 12 years ago. The condition of Sunil’s mother Mongali Devi worsened after hearing the shocking news. A number of residents reached the martyred havildar’s house to console the family.
When contacted, Saran superintendent of police Hari Kishore Rai said that the district police have so far not received any official information from the police headquarters in this connection. “I have also been informed by local media about the martyred soldier from the district,” he told TOI over phone.
The body of the slain soldier will reach Patna by a special plane. The body will be dispatched to his native village Dhibra in Saran after according guard of honour at the airport. The funeral will take place at his ancestral village, a source in headquarters of the Bihar Regiment at Danapur said.
Another solider Kundan Kumar Ojha belonged to Dihari village under Hajipur West panchayat in Sahibganj district of Jharkhand. Both Sunil and Kundan were imparted training at the Danapur headquarters of the Bihar regiment. Santosh also lost his life in the clash.
