Bid to protect Niranjana river

Gaya: The Mahabodhi Society of India (MSI), Indian Institute of Management (IIM), and prominent social workers have come forward to ensure the success of the Niranjana river recharge mission, dubbed ‘Nirmal Niranjana’. The initiative to protect the river is in addition to state-level efforts, which include the construction of a rubber dam in the Falgu to retain 2 feet of water throughout the year.
Suresh Singh, general secretary of ‘Nirmal Niranjana’, told this reporter, “As with the Ganga and the Falgu, which are sacred to Hindus, the Niranjana is extremely important to Buddhists. The ‘Nirmal Niranjana’, which was initiated by P Siwalee Thero (president of the MSI), has garnered support from all of the Bodh Gaya-based monasteries.”
During a recent discussion on the rejuvenation of the Niranjana in Bodh Gaya, Ranchi DFO Siddharth Tripathi proposed setting up small nurseries and planting saplings on both sides of the banks, as well as creating awareness among the locals.
