Avoid chaddar with Quranic verses at dargah: Muslim body
Nagpur: After the controversy over alleged burning of a chaddar with Quranic verses and the consequent violence on March 17 at Mahal, the Central Seerat-un-Nabi Committee has called for discontinuing such sheets bearing religious text or portions of scriptures.
A meeting was convened at Shehzadi Lawn under the auspices of the Central Seerat-un-Nabi Committee recently. The meeting, chaired by Ameer-e-Shariat Mufti Abdul Qadir Khan, included all the scholars and prominent members of the Muslim community. It was resolved that henceforth, chaddar with Quranic verses shall not be placed on any tomb in a dargah.
A resolution regarding this was sanctioned in the meeting. The Central Seerat-un-Nabi Committee will also implore people not to place chaddar with Quranic verses on shrines. The committee will submit this proposal to the administration and request suitable regulations.
The meeting was attended by Central Seerat-un-Nabi Committee president Syed Parvez Rizvi, general secretary Abdul Kalam, vice president Quddus Khan, Mufti Abdul Aziz Khan, Abdul Latif Khan, advocate Asif Qureshi, Javed Iqbal, secretary of masjid Mir Faiz Abdul Rahman, advocate Nazim Qureshi, Maulana Mohammad Raza, Mufti Dilkash Raza, Dr Owais Hasan, Guddu Bhai Chadarwale, Tariq Patel, Feroz Raza, Irshad Ali, Aslam Mulla, Yunus Patel, Mateen Rahman, Abdul Nadeem, Naved Sheikh, and others.
Pyare Khan, chairman of Hazrat Baba Tajuddin Trust, told TOI that they had implemented this decision two years ago. "We had organised a meeting of all khadims and shopkeepers and urged them to avoid using such chaddar with kalam or ayaat on them. Disposal of such chaddars too becomes problematic for the administration," he said.
On March 17, the VHP and Bajrang Dal members had burned an effigy of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb allegedly wrapped in a chaddar with Quranic verses at Chitnis Park. Muslim community had expressed grievance over hurting religious sentiments.
