MANDYA: Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambareesh and Congress leader N Chaluvarayaswamy coincidentally met each other at a wedding function held in Mandya on Sunday. Both the leaders had come to attend a marriage function which was held at Kanaka Bhavan in Mandya.

After attending the function when Chaluvarayaswamy along with his supporters was walking out of the hall, he noticed Sumalatha entering the hall and went and greeted her.
JD(S) leaders had accused Chaluvarayaswamy of indirectly supporting Sumalatha in the election to defeat Nikhil Kumaraswamy. Speaking to reporters, Sumalatha said that it was a coincident that she met the Congress leader at the marriage function and it should not be considered in a political way. “We had a brief talk. There was no political discussion. He advised me to take rest for few days as I had a hectic campaigning,” she said.
Sumalatha also said that she does not believe in any pre or post-election surveys. “I am just waiting for the result on May 23,” she said. She also defended actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s statement that instead of loan waiver, farmers should get scientific price for their crop. “I too believe the same,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chaluvarayaswamy, while speaking to reporters, said he believe that people of Mandya have voted for the right candidate. “We have to just wait for May 23. Sumalatha has contested for the swabhimana and all the surveys which are being shown shows that Sumalatha will win,” he said indirectly expressing his support to Sumalatha.
“The entire government worked for coalition candidate Nikhil. Former PM’s family was in Mandya to campaign for their candidate. Even then the surveys say that the Independent candidate will win. We have to wait for the result,” he said but refused to say whether the Mandya result will affect the coalition government.
