Shahrukh Khan and Gauri Khan to receive Rs 9 crore refund from Maharashtra revenue dept

MUMBAI: The state revenue dept has approved the refund of Rs 9 crore to actor Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri, paid by the couple for the conversion of leasehold land to freehold.
In 2019, when the govt introduced a concessional scheme for the conversion of leasehold land to freehold, the couple applied under the scheme for their 2,446 sq metre plot at Bandra West. They paid Rs 27.5 crore at 25% of the Ready Reckoner Rate for the conversion.
Revenue dept officials said the land that was converted to freehold was less than what was estimated. In 2022, Gauri filed a petition before the Mumbai suburban collector seeking a refund of the surplus amount paid. The collector's office, in turn, forwarded the petition to the state govt, which accepted the amount paid was in excess and has now approved the refund.
