Pedestrian (55) killed by auto, driver arrested

Mumbai: A 55-year-old unidentified man lost his life after being struck by a fast-moving auto rickshaw on Friday. The fatal collision occurred on SV Road in Malad (West) when the pedestrian was hit by the rickshaw operated by Laxman Surve (60). Malad police apprehended Surve on charges of causing death by negligence and violations under the Motor Vehicle Act. A police constable on patrol witnessed the incident and promptly apprehended the driver. "The rickshaw driver was caught by the patrolling police constable Amit Chavan (32). His blood sample has been sent for alcohol test," stated an officer. tnn
