Panvel’s first global-standard public cricket facility opened
Navi Mumbai: The Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) inaugurated an international-standard cricket facility on Sunday. State minister Ashish Shelar was among those present on the occasion.
The facility, situated at the Rajiv Gandhi ground on plot no. 281 in sector 11, New Panvel, near Adai Circle, spans 30,000 square metres and will be operated by Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation (DVF). The Rs 14 crore sports complex was built over four years.
A partnership agreement between PCMC and DVF was established in 2022. The agreement stipulates that 101 promising local talents, primarily students aged 11 to 19 years, will receive free training annually. Selection trials are scheduled from May 1 to 4 for under-12, under-14, under-16, and under-19 categories, after which training will commence.
"We will try to produce world-level cricketers from this region who will represent the country," said former India cricket captain Dilip Vengsarkar.
