MUMBAI: Bombay high court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a petition by Yes Bank founder
Rana Kapoor’s wife and two daughters challenging a special CBI court order rejecting their pleas for bail and sending them to judicial custody. The verdict will be pronounced on September 28.
Justice Bharati Dangre heard the pleas of Kapoor’s wife Bindu and daughters Roshini and Radha Kapoor-Khanna.
The trio was booked by CBI in an alleged corruption and cheating case involving Dewan Housing Finance Ltd. On September 14, the special court sent them to 14-day judicial custody till September 23. It was extended till October 1 on Thursday.
CBI’s advocate said they were taken into custody to ensure their presence during trial. But the petitioners’ advocates argued that the requirement of arrest and custody can be only when there is apprehension that the accused may flee.
They said the three cooperated with investigations and would continue to do so.
