Thane: The Kalyan crime branch on Wednesday arrested a man who allegedly murdered his girlfriend, with whom he was in a live-in relationship at Thakurli, the police informed.
According to an officer from the Tilak Nagar police station in Dombivili, the body of the victim, identified as Pallavi alias Ragini Rahul Deshpande (38), was sent for postmortem. An FIR under section 103(1) (Murder) of the BNS was registered against the accused, Subash Bhoir, said a police officer.
Police revealed that the victim was already married with two children but was separated from her husband for the past two years, with the children remaining in their father's custody, said the officer.
"The accused and victim met during lockdown when Bhoir falsely informed Deshpande that his wife was dead, suggesting they live together. They were in a relationship for approximately two years" added the police officer.
Investigators reported that during the night between April 22 and 23, Bhoir attacked Deshpande with a sharp weapon, killing her before fleeing the scene. Police sources indicated that Deshpande was pressuring Bhoir to marry her, which allegedly triggered the violent attack.
Police traced and apprehended Bhoir on Wednesday. The local police are continuing their investigation into the crime.
