MUMBAI: Film-maker Gautam Verma was arrested by Versova police on charges of rape on Saturday. Verma is directing the movie, Agreement���Ek Daastaan and has worked as an assistant to late film-maker Mukul Anand.
The police said Verma was arrested late on Saturday night after the victim's mother filed a complaint against him. Forty-year-old Verma and the victim were neighbours at Four Bungalows in Andheri.

Verma and the girl's family used to visit each other quite often. The girl, a Class VI student of a local school, was a close friend of Verma's nephew and the two always played together. The nephew also lived in the same neighbourhood as Verma and the victim.
The police said on Saturday Verma called the girl over to his nephew's house at 2.45 pm to play with his nephew and allegedly raped her. There was no one in the house at the time of the incident.
The incident came to light in the evening when the victim went home and complained to her mother. Verma was arrested and on Sunday remanded to police custody by a metropolitan court. The girl was sent to the Nagpada police hospital for a check-up. Verma's family was not available for comment.
Verma's under-production venture, Agreement-Ek Daastaan boasts of big names like Rati Agnihotri, Victor Banerjee and Ravi Gosain. The film has been shot at various locations in the United Kingdom.
