MUMBAI: The anti-extortion cell of Mumbai crime branch will now investigate the case where producer Sushma Shiromani was threatened by gangster Ravi Pujari to withdraw her candidature from the recently held IMPPA election. She was contesting elections for the post of president against the present president TP Agarwal.
Shiromani had received a phone call in August from an international number where the person on other line had identified himself as Ravi Pujari and asked her to withdraw from the election.
The gangster even offered her money for it which surprised the police. She had reported the matter to the Khar police station regarding the threat received, but there was no action taken in the case.
Shiromani said, "I had to move court to lodge my FIR in the case as nobody was taking me seriously. Agarwal continued to make allegations against me that I had made a lot of drama about the threat calls, but they were true and my family can vouch for it. ''
The Khar police had called various people connected with the association for questioning in the case but failed to conclude the investigation. Shiromani had made an allegation against Agarwal, but earlier he had denied his involvement in the case.
