Man hangs self after wife allegedly harassed him over property
Meerut: A 30-year-old man allegedly took his life after facing repeated harassment from his estranged wife over property ownership and a monetary demand of Rs 3 lakh.
The deceased, identified as Rohan Kumar, a resident of Abdullapur village under Bhawanpur police jurisdiction in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, was found dead in his room on Thursday morning. Family members told the police that Rohan had not come out of his room for a long time and did not respond to their calls. Concerned, his elder brother, Ravi Shankar, broke into the room and found his body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Rohan's mother, Rajesh Devi, said, "My son married two years ago in court without our consent. His wife had been blackmailing him for a share in the family property and pressuring him for money. A few days ago, his wife had left for her parental home."
Sadar Dehat circle officer, Abhishek Patel, told TOI, "We have received a complaint from the family and an investigation is underway. However, no FIR has been registered yet. Action will be taken based on findings of the probe."
A similar case was reported earlier this month in Sambhal, where 30-year-old Gaurav Kumar, allegedly ended his life after facing repeated harassment from his wife, Priya Sharma. Following a complaint from Gaurav's father, Krishna Pal Singh, an FIR was registered against Priya, her mother Neelam, and her brother Akash under BNS Section 108 (abetment to suicide).
Similarly, last month in Agra, Jitendra Singh, 32, allegedly took his life after being harassed by his lover. He left behind a video recording before his death. An FIR was registered against the woman and her family under BNS section 108.
