BIJNOR: A UP constable, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented flat in Moradabad on Sunday, blamed three colleagues for his extreme step in a suicide note.
In the note, Amit Kumar, 30, accused head constables Giyas Ahmed, Shamim Ahmed and Bhanu Pratap of harassing him over a dispute involving 40 litres of diesel -- which was used but not documented. "I did not steal the diesel. My colleagues were making a false case against me," he purportedly wrote.
SP (city) Kumar Ranvijay Singh confirmed on Tuesday that the autopsy report suggested "death by hanging" as the cause of his death, and they have now launched an investigation into his allegations.
An FIR was subsequently registered against the three cops under BNS section 108 (abetment of suicide) following a complaint by Amit's father, Sompal Singh. Demanding strict action, Singh said, "My son told me about the diesel episode. His colleagues were threatening him with departmental action. Police should book all the accused under the section of murder."
Amit was posted on UP 112 PRV (police response vehicle) duty in Moradabad, while his wife and their two sons lived in Gajraula, Amroha.
His landlord's family grew suspicious when they received no response to their calls on Sunday morning and noticed his room locked from inside. They peeked through the window and saw him hanging. Senior police officers later arrived and broke their way into the flat.
