Develop DK temples under PRASHAD scheme: MP
Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP, Capt Brijesh Chowta, met Union minister for culture and tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, and requested for the development of several key temples in Dakshina Kannada district.
The MP insisted on developing prominent temples including Mahathobhara Sri Mahalingeshwara temple, Puttur, and Sri Shishileshwara temple, Shishila. He appealed the Union minister to develop these temples under the pilgrimage rejuvenation and spiritual, heritage augmentation drive (PRASHAD scheme) of the central govt.
The MP stated that he, along with Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja, held an important discussion with the Union minister in New Delhi. "I requested the minister to include temples such as Sri Nandikeshwara temple, Nandibetta, Gardadi, Sri Durgaparameshwari temple, Kolli, Sri Shishileshwara temple, Shishila, Sri Sahasralingeshwara temple, Uppinangady, and Sri Thodikana Mallikarjuna temple in Sullia taluk under the PRASHAD scheme. This would help attract more pilgrims and tourists to these temples," he said.
Dakshina Kannada district is a hub of religious sites, attracting pilgrims and visitors from Karnataka and beyond. In this context, many temples are eligibile to be developed under the central govt's scheme. Capt Chowta said he requested the minister to provide the necessary funding to enhance the appeal of the temples, including Sri Sahasralingeshwara temple as a priority.
Recently, Karnataka govt forwarded proposals to the ministry for the development of seven temples located in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
