MADITSSIA hails self-certification for cottage industry approvals
Madurai: The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (MADITSSIA) has welcomed the Tamil Nadu government's move to introduce self-certification for building plan approvals for cottage industries and green-category industrial buildings.
In a release, MADITSSIA president T Kodeeswaran said the decision would enable small entrepreneurs to get instant approvals for factory buildings up to 2,690 sq. ft. (500 sq. metres) — a long-standing demand of the association. He added that the initiative would particularly benefit small and micro enterprises in both urban and rural parts of Madurai.
The association also lauded the reduction in the minimum access road width for industrial buildings in village panchayat areas from 7 metres to 6 metres, which is expected to ease expansion for small businesses.
MADITSSIA said it would soon request the government to extend the self-certification provision to existing cottage industries as well. The move is expected to simplify approval processes and encourage more entrepreneurs to enter the green-category sector, the release added.
