LUDHIANA: Guru Nanak Khalsa College from Women felicitated 234 students at a prize distribution function on Wednesday in the college's Sant Singh Gujarkhani auditorium. The students were awarded for excelling in studies, sports and cultural activities in the academic year 2010-11.
The function started with a prayer to remember God and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Praminder Kaur, Esha Jain, Jaspreet Kaur Mankoo and Karamdeep Kaur, who are pursuing post-graduate courses in the college, were among those awarded for excellence in academics.
Praminder, student of M.Com (II) and resident of CMC Chowk area , said she studies for five to six hours a day and ''prefers to do self-study''. ''With determination and dedication anyone can score good marks, only the will is required,' said the student, who also gives tuitions for others in the evenings.
Her batchmate, Esha Jain said she studies for about there hours everyday and also teaches school students because she loves to spend time with children.
Jaspreet and Karamdeep won accolades for doing exceptionally well in MA English (I). Jaspreet, a resident of industrial area, said she scored the highest marks in the British literature.
''This award in academics has really boosted the morale of students and has given us the desire to work harder,'' she said. Not satisfied with merely doing well herself, Jaspreet also gives tuitions to other students to help them also excel.
Agreeing with her classmate, Karamdeep said, ''Being given these awards at the annual function really gives us confidence that we can do more academically.'' She added that English is her favourite subject and she loves to read novels in her free time.
''I keep telling my juniors to read as many book as they can so that their knowledge can be enhanced,'' she said.
