Punjab: On raid, team of CGST officials attacked in Ludhiana

In this matter, the Sadar police on the statements of inspector Rohit Meena, of CGST lodged an FIR against the house owner Yashpal Mehta, his daughters in law Alka Mehta and Shakumbra Mehta, his daughter and their unidentified accomplices.

LUDHIANA: Gone for a raid, a team of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) was assaulted by the family and their accomplices in Basant Avenue on Friday afternoon. The accused not only assaulted the officials but also vandalized their vehicle with a brick. The team had to call police force for their safety.
In this matter, the Sadar police on the statements of inspector Rohit Meena, of CGST lodged an FIR against the house owner Yashpal Mehta, his daughters in law Alka Mehta and Shakumbra Mehta, his daughter and their unidentified accomplices.

Inspector Rohit Meena stated that a team of CGST including assistant commissioners Hemant Kumar and Baljeet Singh Khara and other officials had gone for a raid at the house of Yashpal Mehta in Basant Avenue. As per the search warrants when they were searching the house, Yashpal’s daughters in law Alka and Shakumbra and daughter started gathering people outside the house. The gathered people and the family members obstructed their duty. The accused also blocked their way when the officials tried to go outside. Thereafter, they called the local police at the spot.
Inspector Meena added, “When in the presence of police the official tried to leave, the woman trio signaled the gathered people to intercept the vehicle. The people intercepted the vehicle and meanwhile Yashpal Mehta grabbed assistant commissioner Hemant Kumar from his collar and tried to pull him out of the car. Thereafter the mob there got violent and manhandled the CGST team. Meanwhile, someone vandalized the windowpane of the Toyota Innova car with a brick. Further, one unidentified accused tried to attack inspector Chetna Singh with a brick and the trio assaulted the inspector. The local police managed to get them out of the situation.”
In-charge Basant Avenue police post ASI Shubhash Chand said that case under sections (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 506 (criminal intimidation), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of IPC against Yashpal Mehta, his daughters in law Alka Mehta, Shakumbra Mehta, his daughter and unidentified accomplices.
