Ludhiana: The district administration Saturday said comprehensive preparations have been made for seamless wheat procurement, equipping all the 108 grain markets with essential facilities such as cleanliness, potable water supply, fans, and adequate lighting.
A statement from the district administration said although wheat is yet to arrive in the markets, officials from the mandi board, department of food, civil supplies, and procurement agencies have been deployed to ensure that farmers face no inconvenience while selling their produce.
It added that inspectors from the department and procurement agencies have been assigned duties at each purchase centre to facilitate immediate procurement of wheat. A total of 40 temporary sub-yards have been established in addition to the main markets.
Deputy commissioner Himanshu Jain said approximately 8.29 lakh metric tonnes of wheat is expected to arrive this season.
