Ludhiana: A day after a 22-year-old welder died after falling into an acid tank at a zinc plating factory in Phase 4, Focal Point, Moti Nagar Police lodged an FIR against factory owner Gaurav Kumar for causing death due to negligence.
The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Mukeem Ahmad, brother of the victim, Sameer Ahmad, 22. Sameer worked at a welding shop in Vishwakarma Colony and came to work on Sunday morning.
Mukeem Ahmad said that Gaurav made Sameer and another factory worker climb a 15 foot high shed for welding work. When the victim was working, the shed collapsed. While the factory worker fell at a distance, Sameer plunged into a four foot deep acid tank used for industrial processing.
The complainant alleged that instead of helping, the factory owner escaped. The security guard of the factory informed him about the incident. He said that by the time he reached the spot and took his brother out of the tank, he was already dead.
Mukeem said that his brother could have survived had the factory owner rescued him on time. Inspector Amritpal Singh, SHO, Moti Nagar police station, said that the police registered a case against factory owner Gaurav Kumar under section 106 (causing death by negligence) of BNS. The accused is on the run, and raids are being conducted for his arrest.
After the incident, relatives of the deceased staged a protest outside the factory on Sunday evening. They dispersed after being pacified by the police.
