City to get first park with free cricket stadium, adventure zone
Ludhiana: A cricket stadium and adventure zone is being opened in a public park of the city as part of a pilot project. Residents will be able to play cricket for free in the park, located in Salem Tabri, near Jalandhar Bypass, ward number 94. Registration, which is also free of charge, is being done and priority will be given to area residents. For now, last minute touches are being given to the sports park.
Besides cricket lovers, children between six and 12 years of age will also have access to the adventure zone in the park area. The concept was introduced by councillor from ward number 94, Aman Bagga, who wanted to develop something for cricket enthusiasts. The park, offering free of cost cricket facility for residents and adventure zone for children, will be the first of its kind in the city. To prevent accidents such as ball hits, the cricket park area will be fenced in.
Councillor Bagga said, "I saw many such private cricket parks where a hefty amount is charged from cricket lovers, but here, we will provide everything free of cost. We are getting everything free for the children and youngsters."
He added that they had also formed a team for upkeep of the park once the MC completed construction work. Bagga claimed that this marked the fulfilment of his promise to voters in the ward. "Our teams have started registering cricket lovers in colonies of the ward so that they are given slots on priority, after which other areas will be considered. To avoid any problem, timings will be fixed for cricket enthusiasts and adventure lovers," he said.
For the past few years, the MC has started developing sports courts under flyovers for the use of children and other youngsters. While the area under the Lakkar Bridge is being used for sports, courts under the southern bypass flyover are not being used much.
