Accused in Barnala toddler’s kidnapping traced in Ludhiana
Ludhiana: The case of kidnapping of a two-year-old boy from the slum area near Barnala grain market has a strong connection with Ludhiana. The main conspirators, Dr Vikas Tiwari, who owns a healthcare centre in Mundian Khurd, and Asha worker Ravinder Kaur, are from Ludhiana. Besides, two of the accused involved in the kidnapping case were arrested in the Rs 9 crore heist at the office of a cash management company in Ludhiana on June 10, 2023.
Asha worker Ravinder Kaur's son, who was lodged in Ludhiana jail in an extortion case, befriended the two persons who were involved in the Rs 9 crore heist in jail. When the Asha worker discussed the kidnapping plan with her son, he roped them in for the task.
They kidnapped the toddler from Barnala on April 4. Police rescued the boy from Ludhiana and arrested the two main conspirators, Dr Vikas Tiwari and Asha worker Ravinder Kaur, along with the other accused, Damanpreet Singh, Aditya, and Manav Arora, from Ludhiana. The other accused, Kohinoor Singh, Devinder Singh, Rohit, and Dasrath Singh, were arrested from Suvasra area of Mandsaur district in Madhya Pradesh.
DIG, Patiala Range, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, said, "The police probe discovered that Dr Tiwari and Asha worker Ravinder Kaur are the main conspirators of the kidnapping. The Asha worker had offered to arrange a child for Dr Tiwari. He was supposed to give the child to a childless couple. Ravinder Kaur was to get Rs 2 lakh for this task. She traced the child and needed people who could execute the crime, for which she talked to her son, Kohinoor Singh. Kohinoor, in 2023-2024, was lodged in Ludhiana Central Jail in an extortion case, where he met Damanpreet Singh and Aditya, who were involved in the Rs 9 crore dacoity in Ludhiana's CMS office. They befriended each other, and when Ravinder Kaur asked for persons to execute the kidnapping, Kohinoor approached the two men."
Sidhu added, "Damanpreet and Kohinoor's friend, Manav Arora, executed the kidnapping with the help of Aditya. Thereafter, they handed the child over to Kohinoor and Devinder, who took him to Ludhiana in a car. Later, Damanpreet, Aditya, Kohinoor, Devinder, and their aides Rohit and Dasrath went to an occultist in Madhya Pradesh. A police team followed them there and apprehended them, while another team arrested the main conspirators from Ludhiana and rescued the child."
Sidhu said that although the arrested accused, Dr Tiwari and Asha worker Ravinder Kaur, claimed that their intention was to sell the child to a childless couple for money, police doubt their claims. "Police are yet to ascertain if the accused genuinely wanted to sell the child as it is not clear why the other accused went to an occultist in Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, the accused got the child's head shaved. The accused are being questioned about this."
