UP in commanding position

Lucknow: Shantanu Singh, Kushal Yadav, and Kaif Rehman struck half-centuries as Uttar Pradesh posted 323/5, taking a commanding position on the opening day of the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy final against Punjab at the Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat.
Openers Sarthak Chechi and Shantanu Singh added a quickfire 116 runs off just 92 balls. Shantanu played a brilliant knock of 85 runs off 57 balls, hitting nine boundaries and six sixes, while Sarthak contributed 21 runs. Shlok (23) and Mohd Anas (40) also chipped in with valuable runs. After the fall of five wickets, Kushal Yadav (75) and Kaif Rehman (58) arrested the slide and took UP's score from 211/5 to 323/5 at the close of play on Day 1. Sahibjootveer Singh was Punjab's standout bowler, claiming three wickets.
