LUCKNOW: Special diwans were organized in city gurudwaras to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Arjan Dev on Wednesday.
Guru Arjan Dev is first of the two gurus martyred in the
Sikh faith and fifth of the ten gurus of Sikhism. He is also known to have compiled the first official scriptures of Sikhism 'the adi granth' which later was expanded to guru granth sahib.
The diwan at gurudwara Mansarovar and gurudwara Sadar began with a reading of Sukhmani Sahib followed by 'asa ki vaar' kirtan and langar (community feast).
Shabad kirtans were organized in gurudwara Naka where the Akhand sahib path also began ahead of Khalsa Sajna Diwas on Saturday.
Besides, a nagar kirtan was organized from gurudwara covering Naka crossing, DAV college, Motinagar crossing, Aryanagar and back. Gatka performers, student bands and martial arts teams were a part of the programme.
