Lucknow: Taking a serious view of the spurt in dengue cases, the high court on Monday directed urban development department secretary, municipal commissioner and district health officer to get garbage heaps removed from all areas in the city and ensure hygienic conditions for citizens.
The court also asked the state government to take steps to check the rising numbers of dengue cases, besides providing proper treatment to patients in the hospitals.
Fixing the matter on September 28, the court directed the three officials to file their personal affidavit in the court regarding the steps being taken for checking spread of the mosquito-borne menace.
A bench of Justice A P Sahi and Justice Vijay Laxmi passed the order on a PIL moved by lawyer M P Singh. Annexing newspaper cuttings in the PIL, the petitioner said this is the season when mosquito-borne diseases claim many lives every year, but even then authorities remain unmoved until the diseases again cause many deaths.
Meanhwile, after the high court cracked the whip on LMC for its inability to control dengue menace by regularly removing garbage and ensuring proper cleanliness, municipal commissioner Uday Raj Singh ordered his subordinates to induct 25 additional sanitary workers in each ward.
He asked to form two separate teams of workers, one for cleaning of drains and the other for ensuring daily lifting of garbage from roads. He pointed out that though drains in posh areas like Gomtinagar have been cleaned, the silt has been left on sides for drying, which is further polluting the surroundings.
He instructed the sanitary staff for its immediate removal.
