Lucknow: Faithful in the city prayed on Maundy Thursday at different city churches. On Holy Thursday, Jesus Christ had Last Supper with his disciples before being crucified on Friday.
Christians around the world observe Eucharist ceremony of Bread and Cup to denote body of Jesus and His blood for atonement of sins of humanity and his humility of washing feet of his disciples.
Christians gathered for special services in churches where a priest washed the feet of members during the Holy Communion Service. At Daliganj Church, special service took place and Priest in charge of the Church Parag Wesley gave the message and said, "Humility, self-sacrifice and caring for others are greatest attributes Jesus Christ manifested and the world desperately needs these virtues". Hymns ‘What a friend we have in Jesus' and ‘There is power in the blood' were sung by the choir. Jessica Massey, (45) said, "With my sons and my mother we prayed for peace."
At Epiphany Church, Lalbagh Presbyter in charge Evan Frank Bakhsh delivered sermon and hymns like ‘When I survey the wondrous cross' and ‘Ai sur jo khoon aluda' were sung. Jyotsana Singh (36) said she prayed for prosperity and happiness of her family.
At The Assembly of Believers Church, Aliganj, hymns like ‘Kalvery ke paas kada' and ‘Bar bar baha lahu Yeshu ka' were sung. Pastor Morris Kumar washed feet of the members. A special prayer for unwell people was held. Rebecca David and her husband Anil David said, "Jesus gave his life for the sins of others."
