LUCKNOW: The new vice-chancellor of Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) Prof Mahendra Bhandari is confident that he will be able to conduct a free and fair CPMT-2003 with no controversies.
He said it was also not necessary to change the team formed by his predecessor to conduct CPMT. But, he added, that he was keeping an eye on affairs and would take decisions according to the situation.
However, in a bid to complicate the issue, some officials said that government notification states, "The CPMT examination will be conducted by the Chairman CPMT 2003, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (upgraded KG Medical College)". They said that majority of preparation work had been already done under the chairmanship of the outgoing interim V-C Prof KM Singh.
"If now the CPMT organising team is changed and new officials are appointed, utmost care would be required to maintain secrecy," said officials and added that government notification should be studied to find answers to these queries and if they are not present there, then the government would have to amend the notification.
On the other hand, a section of officials and teachers described it as a ploy of the old team to remain in charge of CPMT affairs and said the new V-C should have a new team for conducting the CPMT exam.
Prof Bhandari, however, allayed all apprehensions expressed by reporters on CPMT-2003. He told reporters, "There are rumours about paper leakages in every such examination, which are spread deliberately by miscreants who take candidates for a ride."
He said that conducting free and fair CPMT-2003 was an acid test for him and assured that nothing would go wrong in the conduct of examination and evaluation of answer-papers.
