Lucknow: Bodies of two daily wage labourers from Bahraich were found under suspicious circumstances near a railway track in the city's upscale Viram Khand area of Gomtinagar on Sunday morning, sparking panic among locals and raising questions about security in the area.
Both the bodies had severe head injuries, suggesting they were attacked with blunt objects.
Police officials, based on preliminary findings, said it appeared both the men were assaulted and their bodies dumped near the railway line late on Saturday night. One body was found lying on the roadside, while the other was about 100 metres away near a garbage heap adjacent to the tracks. When the police arrived after receiving information from locals, one of the victims was still breathing. Both were rushed to RMLIMS, where doctors declared them dead, the police said. The deceased were identified as Ram Sanware (42) and Rakesh Kumar (35), both residents of Karsan Purwa in Kaiserganj, Bahraich. They lived in temporary shelters in Shankarpurwa, Gomtinagar and worked as shuttering labourers at local construction sites, police said. A personal dispute or illicit relationship might have been the motive, said a police officer.
DCP, north, Shashank Singh said the exact cause of death would be determined after the postmortem examinaiton report.
Four police teams were formed to crack the case.
