Uncle punishes kid with hot spatula, held

Kolkata: A 35-year-old man, the step-uncle of a seven-year-old girl, was arrested by Ekbalpore police on Monday for allegedly burning the child with a hot ‘khunti’ (spatula).
The incident was reported from Kidderpore on Sunday night. Accused Nasir Hussain was arrested on a complaint by the victim’s mother, who claimed she was not at home when her daughter was punished for reportedly disobeying her uncle.
Since the child is from her first marriage, she is often allegedly tortured.
The child received burns on her chest and hands and was admitted to a nursing home in a serious condition. The accused has been sent to police remand till May 1.
