From PLT, with love to Utpal Dutt

as today is the death anniversary of utpal dutt, it's the time to pay tribute to this veteran. people's little theatre (plt) president shova sen, dutt's wife, is staging a play today called kshama karbo na (we won't forgive) at rabindra sadan. nilanjana ghosh, a stage and tv actress, has made her debut in filmmaking with a documentary on dutt and his wife which is going to be ready for viewing in september on doordarshan.kshama karbo na is a continuation of the trend set by utpal dutt. it is an anti-fascist, anti-oppression play. set in chilie, it recounts the days under the oppressive regime of general pinochet, said sen. one of the producers of rpg netcom, nilanjana wants to make the younger generation aware of the political theatre with which kolkata has been associated since the time of dutt, sen and tripti mitra. the documentary will also focus on the rich history of kolkata's group theatre movement. kolkata often forgets the role of political theatre and its impact on the theatrical movement of bengal. sen, mitra and reba roy chowdhury have contributed greatly to the rich reportoire of political theatre, but many people do not know about them at all. i have the responsibility to make the people aware of this struggle, said nilanjana. the documentary will highlight sen as a woman, an actress, an organiser and her dedicated work for ipta and plt. there will also be excerpts from dutt sen's plays. the documentary should be ready by september. i was not very confident about the technicalities of filmmaking. but thanks to ladli mukherjee, the technical director of this documentary, i have been able to overcome my fears, said nilanjana.
