Kolhapur-based medical supplier booked for obtaining 5 crore contract with CPR Hospital using forged documents
Kolhapur: The city police have booked a local medical supplier for fraudulently securing a tender worth Rs4.87 crore to supply sterile dressing pads to the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital (CPRH).
The accused, Mayur Vasant Limbekar, resides in Shahupuri First Lane. Between 2022 and March 2023, he was given the contract to supply sterile dressing pads used for surgical procedures. However, it was later discovered that Limbekar obtained the contract by forging documents. He provided a fake certificate of rate contract agreement and a forged willingness letter from a company authorising him to sell the product to CPRH.
An inquiry was initiated, and the documents were screened. After they were found to be forged, the CPRH administration wrote to state govt for guidance on proceeding with legal action. Accordingly, Shishir Prabhakar Mirgunde, medical superintendent of CPRH, also filed a complaint at the Laxmipuri police station.
A case was registered under sections 409, 420, 465, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), as the alleged crime took place before the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) came into effect last year.
Police inspector Shriram Kanerkar of the Laxmipuri police is investigating the case. He said, "The accused is on the run. We have appointed teams to search for him. We are hopeful that he will be in our custody for further investigation in the next three to four days."
