Malappuram: Uncertainty over allocation of river management fund (RMF) has affected the the survey and boundary demarcation process of Chaliyar River in the district.
To protect Chaliyar River, which is facing threat of encroachment and illegal sand mining, the revenue authorities had decided to conduct survey and demarcate boundary of the river months ago.
A ‘Prakruthi Samrakshana Samithi’ was also constituted in Kondotty taluk in March. But the survey process is yet to begin as authorities are still waiting for the allocation of RMF.
District collector Amit Meena has informed that the fund would be allotted for the purpose and boundary demarcation process would be completed in time-bound manner.
Land revenue authorities in Kondotty taluk, from where the survey has to begin, have already submitted the estimate for the survey and demarcation process. But the works are yet to begin due to uncertainty over fund allocation.
Kondotty tahsildar P Raghuath said that the boundary demarcation would permanently resolve confusion over the boundary of the river bank .
“We have already submitted the detailed estimate to conduct survey process and stone-laying process to district authorities. We can start the work once the fund is released,” he said.
Prakruthi Samrakshana Samithi will support the officials in the survey process in respective taluks. Apart from the representatives of revenue, forest and police officers, representatives of environmental organizations, political parties, clubs and trade organizations would be part of the samithi, which would be chaired by the local MLA.
