Man gets ten years imprisonment for stolen goods’ trade

Kanpur: Additional sessions judge Kanpur Nagar Surendra Pal Singh on Friday senced accused Munna, a resident of Panki area to ten years rigorous imprisonment and with a fine of Rs 6000 for dishonestly receiving stolen property and habitually dealing in stolen property.
The court in its order stated that if Munna failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo another term of four months rigorous imprisonment.

The term he had spent in jail during trial would be adjusted in his sentence, the court ordered.
According to ADGC Pradeep Sahu, the Panki police received information that the accused had looted a mobile phone in Vijay Nagar on November 14 and that he would come to his house to pick his clothes after which he would leave the city for some time due to apprehension of being arrested.
After arresting him the police had recovered as many as 21 looted mobiles of different brands from his possession. When grilled, he revealed that Shivam and Chhotu alias Shiv Shankar, a resident of Juhi area, were also involved in the mobile loot. Shivam used to ride a bike and the pillion rider would snatch phones from the people found talking on mobile phones while walking on the road.
On November 14, Shivam had snatched a mobile from a man but the victim caught their motorcycle. Shivam dropped the mobile in his pocket and ran away, Munna told the police.
