A 10-member team of University Grants Commission (UGC) is on a three-day visit to Rajasthan University (RU) to assess whether to include RU under UGC's scheme Universities with Potential For Excellence.

JAIPUR: A 10-member team of University Grants Commission (UGC) is on a three-day visit to Rajasthan University (RU) to assess whether to include RU under UGC's scheme Universities with Potential For Excellence. On Friday, the team headed by Professor G K Chadda, CEO, South Asia University inspected all science departments and held discussions with their heads.
According to sources, the main focus of the team was on science departments.

They put forth their proposals, achievements before the panel and highlighted various undergoing projects and research work. "The interaction was fruitful. They praised the research work done by our students," said a professor at Botany department.
A few departments also submitted their requirements before the panel. "The department put forth some requirements necessary for delivering world-class results, including equipment, library, sophisticated instrument systems, mobile labs and seminar halls," sources said.
The team will meet elected body of students' union. They will meet all the sections involved in the university to get feedback.
Manish Yadav, president, Rajasthan University Students' Union said, "I will urge them to fill the vacant seats, besides demand to change the curriculum at regular intervals." The team has to choose one university for this scheme out of six shortlisted by them for inspection.
Though the team refused to divulge anything, they hinted at a positive case for the university. The major part of this grant will be used on the science departments and rest will be shared by commerce and social science departments. If RU will be included under the scheme, it will get Rs 50 crore grant. It is estimated that 50% of the grant will be spent on science departments and rest amount will be on commerce and social science departments.
The visit will end on Sunday with an interaction with students. Meanwhile, university has seen a complete makeover ahead of this panel visit. Every department was white washed and professors asked the research scholars to be present during the visit.
