Records of 5 mining leases, 55plots found in raids on PHED engr
Jaipur: The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) conducted raids on Sunday across six districts, including Jaipur, linked to Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) superintendent engineer Ashok Jangid and found documents that showed that he and his family members owned five mining leases in Malpura (Tonk), Paota (Kotputli Behror), Udaipur, and Sarwar (Ajmer).
He had also acquired 55 immovable properties, including 19 in his name, three in the name of his wife Sunita Sharma, and 33 in his son Nikhil Jangid's name. This includes an under construction shopping mall in Paota, a three-storey commercial complex in Jaipur, and two farm houses spread over 40 bighas of land in Paota.
The raids are part of an investigation into alleged disproportionate assets against Jangid, who is currently posted in Banswara.
According to ACB DG Dr Ravi Prakash Meharda, the documents recovered point to substantial investment in the mining sector, with evidence of leases and firms operating in the names of his son and other relatives. Machinery such as crushers, excavators, and blasting equipment worth Rs 4 crore was reportedly purchased to run these mining operations. In Udaipur and Tonk districts, land was also bought for mineral grinding and industrial use.
The ACB also uncovered 22 bank accounts with around Rs 21 lakh. Records also showed that around Rs 30 lakh was spent on the children's education.
ACB teams began raids early Sunday morning in Jaipur, Paota (Kotputli), Mozmabad (Jaipur), Udaipur, Ajmer, and Tonk. , targeting both personal properties and official premises. More than 250 officers and staff of the ACB were involved in the search operation named ‘Bekhof'.
When the ACB filed the FIR, the agency had estimated the total value of assets held by Jangid to be 161% higher than his known sources of income. "We estimated that he earned Rs 11.50 crore during his service period. However, we believe the assessed value of the properties uncovered during raids will be much higher," said an ACB officer.
Raids were conducted at several key locations, including Jangid's house in Vaishali Nagar, Jaipur, shops in Bani Park and Bindayaka, and residences in Paota, Kotputli. Searches extended to project offices of the PHED in Banswara and registrar offices in Paota and Mozmabad, where officials examined land registry records and mining lease documents.
Properties linked to the family include residential houses, commercial shops, and farmland in Jaipur, Paota, Srimadhopur, Mozmabad, Udaipur, Ajmer, Malpura, and Shrimohangarh.
As of late Sunday, ACB teams were still sifting through documents and digital records at various sites. "Jangid joined the govt service as assistant engineer in 1998 and had most of his postings in Banswara," said the officer.
