JAIPUR :
Swine flu virus behaved weirdly last year as parts of state remained almost unaffected, while other parts witnessed outbreaks of the disease.
In the state, 71% of cases of swine flu were reported in only five districts— Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Baran and Udaipur in 2018. However, Sriganganagar is the only district in the state which has not reported even a single case of swine flu and death related to the disease in 2018.
Chief medical health officer (Sriganganagar) Dr Naresh Bansal said, “There were two suspected cases of swine flu reported in the district but they were tested negative for swine flu from laboratory in Bikaner’s Government Medical College. Sriganganagar remained free from swine flu throughout the year.” Since Rajasthan is the biggest state of the country, most of the parts of the state remained almost negligible swine flu cases, while others were badly affected. Swine flu has emerged as a major health issue in Jaipur, Kota, Jodhpur, Baran and Udaipur. The five districts collectively reported 113 swine flu deaths, which are more than 51% of total deaths reported in the entire state due to swine flu.
In the state, 2375 persons were tested positive for swine flu in 2018 and 221 persons died in the same period. According to a health department report, Jaipur remained worst affected, which reported 43% of total persons tested positive for swine flu cases. Kota was at the second spot with 18% of total cases, Jodhpur at third place with 9%, Udaipur reported 5% of total swine flu cases, while each of Baran, Ajmer, Bundi, Jhalawar and Alwar reported 3% of swine flu cases reported in the state in 2018.

The districts which were not much affected were Bikaner, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Jaisalmer, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur and Banswara which collectively reported 33 cases of swine flu in the state. Following five deaths due to swine flu in six days, state is on high alert on swine flu.
