Hyderabad: A 29-year-old man involved in an alleged hit-and-run case at Himayatnagar was arrested on Tuesday.
According to Narayanguda police, the incident happened around 8pm on February 20 night when
Naveen Kumar’s car hit 20-year-old pedestrian, Deepshika Dutta, resulting in multiple injuries on her legs. In her complaint, Dutta, a student, stated that she was waiting for a cab when the car rammed into her.
“Suddenly, a four-wheeler, driven rashly, hit me and sped away. I fell down on the road and received injuries on both legs,” Deepshika stated in her complaint to police. With the help of locals, she was rushed to a private hospital in Hyderguda, where doctors ascertained that her left knee was dislocated. Deepshika lodged a complaint with cops who registered a case under Section 337 (endangering life) of IPC.
“We identified the vehicle and traced accused with CCTV footage. Naveen works at a private electrical firm. We altered the case to Section 338 of IPC,” Narayanguda sub-inspector Naresh Kumar Gounikadi told TOI. Naveen was picked up from his home on February 22 and arrested. He was granted station bail under Section 41 of the CrPC. The victim’s father, Samir Kumar Dutta, reportedly demanded a copy of CCTV footage which was refused. Further investigation is on.
