HYDERABAD: Heavy rains lashed the city on Friday evening, causing power cuts and waterlogging in many areas. According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, areas like Kanchanbagh received 80.5 mm, followed closely by Bahadurpura with 78.8 mm and SRT Colony in Charminar with 76.3 mm.
Similarly, other hard hit areas included Begum Bazar (69.8 mm), Bandlaguda (69.5 mm) and Dabeerpura (66 mm). Several other places, such as Edi Bazar and Amberpet, also received moderate to heavy rainfall, ranging from 50 to 62 mm.
Near about 60 tree fall complaints were registered. Fallen trees were reported in areas like Vijayanagar Colony, Kukatpally, Darussalam, High Court, BN Reddy Nagar, Falaknuma, Sultan Bazaar, Kachiguda, Sindhi Colony, Methodist Colony, and others. Knee-deep water and power outages The heavy showers caused flooding in low-lying areas and disrupted vehicular movement.
According to locals, several areas like Balapur, Falaknuma and Malakpet had knee-deep water. "It was impossible to go out. The water started entering the houses and power cuts made the situation worse," said K Lavanya, a resident of Borabanda.
In Banjara Hills, commuters were also stranded as roads turned into rivers. "I had to wait for almost an hour for the rain to subside so that I could wade through the water," said V Namratha, who was stranded on her way home.
The downpour also caused power cuts in several places, including Mehdipatnam, Uppal and Saroornagar. Many residents took to social media to express their frustration.
"@tgspdcl No power in Penderghast Road Sindhi Colony. Transformer has burst, kindly do the needful soon," tweeted Ashok Girish Lalwani (@Lalwani25) on social media platform X.
"I want to raise a complaint against power cut in the Narayanguda area. Please inform the concerned engineer and restore the power supply soon," tweeted Mohd Shoheb Ansari (@shoeb_nayyar). IMD predicts light to moderate rain According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rain is likely to continue on Saturday.
"Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at some places over Telangana. Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid venturing into waterlogged areas," an IMD statement said.
According to the IMD forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places in the districts. These districts include Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal in Telangana.
