Koppal: The Holi celebration hosted by Congress MP K Rajasekhar Hitnal in the city on Friday drew strong public criticism.
This event, the first of its kind in the region, included a rain dance, DJ performances, and free meals at the taluk stadium. However, many people, including some from his own party, voiced their displeasure.
Manjunath Gondbal, a former Youth Congress president, in a social media post, described the event as a complete waste of resources. He stated, "There are numerous urgent issues in the constituency. The roads are in poor condition, and pollution poses significant health risks. At this time, the MP should have prioritised addressing these concerns rather than indulging in festivities."
Dr Basavaraj Kyavatar, a member of the BJP state core committee, condemned the MP and the event through a series of social media posts. He remarked, "Koppal is on the verge of a pollution crisis, yet the MP is celebrating at the public's expense. This event has turned into a Congress Holi celebration."
The Holi event sparked extensive discussions, posts, and counter-posts across various social media platforms. The extravagant arrangements made by the MP and his supporters are estimated to have cost over Rs 35 lakh.
In response, MP K Rajasekhar Hitnal clarified that the event was organised by the District Athletic Association and funded through donations from enthusiastic volunteers. He emphasised that the celebration aims to engage youth and foster community spirit.
