Haveri: A devastating fire erupted in a cattle shed at Kaduru village in Rattihalli taluk on Saturday midnight, claiming the lives of six cows and destroying agricultural equipment stored within.
The incident, under Rattihalli police limits, resulted in losses exceeding Rs 10 lakh. The cattle shed, belonging to Nagappa Asundi and Hanumanthappa Asundi, was destroyed, causing severe distress to the family. Two of the deceased cows were in advanced stages of pregnancy, with delivery expected in three-four days.
The night-time occurrence hampered immediate firefighting efforts. Despite responding to the cows' distress calls, residents could not rescue the animals. The Hirekerur fire brigade arrived later, but by then, all six cows in the shed had perished.
MLA UB Banakar arrived at the spot after receiving news of the incident. He comforted the affected farmers and directed officials to prepare a detailed loss assessment report, promising to pursue potential govt aid.
